Understanding our Coaching Clients
This workshop explores Paul Ware’s (1983) concept of Doors of Contact – that people have three ways in which they can be contacted: thinking, feeling, and behaving. Ware used the metaphor of doors to describe the ways in which a practitioner can make a connection with their client – the idea that there will be an easily accessible door, whereas another door might be heavily guarded and difficult to open. We will also explore the idea of Working Styles linking the connection methods of the ‘doors’ with the client’s Driver behaviour. This framework for coaches gives a flexible approach to connecting in the most productive way with clients.
